Lantos-Humanity in Action Congressional Fellowship

When: January 13 to May 29, 2015
Where: Washington, DC
Who's eligible: Humanity in Action Senior Fellows, Humanity in Action 2014 Fellows, students and recent graduates from Israeli and Hungarian universities and students or recent graduates of Hungarian university who are of a Roma background.
Each year, Humanity in Action and the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice bring together a group of nine outstanding students and young professionals from around the world for four-month professional fellowships at the United States Congress.
Fellows work in the offices of a United States Representative or Congressional Committee for four days a week. In these roles, Fellows take part in a mix of administrative and substantial, policy-based work. They also spend one day per week attending a curated selection of seminars, lectures and site visits where they explore a variety of topics concerning contemporary policies and politics from leading policy experts in Washington, DC.
The deadline to apply for the 2015 Fellowship is September 2, 2014 for Humanity in Action Fellows and Senior Fellows and October 31, 2014 for Hungarian and Israeli applicants.

More than 100 young leaders have participated in the fellowship since its inception in 2001. Some notable Lantos Fellows include:

  • Marietje Schaake: Marietje is a member of the European Parliament (MEP) representing The Netherlands.  
  • Oliver Skov: A 2009 Fellow, Oliver now serves as US Correspondent at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation.
  • Jesper Pederson: Jesper serves as a Partner at Rasmussen Public Affairs. He credits the start of his career to the Lantos Fellowship.

The program is named in honor of both the late Tom Lantos – a former Congressman, Holocaust survivor and human rights champion – and his wife Annette.
