Within the Wageningen University Fund there are several named funds aimed at supporting students and young researchers at Wageningen University.

Several options exist for acquiring fellowships that cover some or all of the costs of a study programme at Wageningen University. Support is often given in the form of (travel) grants, full or partial scholarships. Most named funds support activities in a specific field at Wageningen University.

The Paul Speijer Fund provides African students with the opportunity to follow the Master Plant Sciences at Wageningen University.

Eligibility
The scholarships are offered to candidates from Africa with a bachelor in Plant Sciences or Agronomy and have achieved excellent results.

The fund prefers students currently employed at a local research institute working on a food crop(s); and who will use this postgraduate education to become leaders in their field.

Candidates must be committed to returning home after finishing the MSc study with the aim of contributing to the improvement and further development of the agricultural production of food crops in the home country.

Further requirements for the Paul Speijer scholarship are:

A GPA of at least 80% of the maximum grade.
Admission to the Wageningen University MSc programme in Plant Sciences or Plant Biotechnology.

Eligible groups
Citizens of ANY country in Africa

Participating Institutions
Wageningen University and Research Center, Wageningen, Netherlands

Fields of study
Masters level courses in Plant Sciences or Agronomy

Number of awards
The fund supports nearly fifty (50) students from developing countries and gives them the chance to study at Wageningen University.

Sponsorship duration
Throughout the whole duration of the program

Scholarship benefits
The Paul Speijer Fund offers African students the opportunity to follow the Master Plant Sciences at Wageningen University. After graduation, most of them return to their country and contribute to sustainable development.

Method of Application
Applications for the Paul Speijer Fund are handled by the Anne van den Ban Fund. During the selection procedure, attention is also given to other possible means of study financing like other scholarship programmes, personalised donations, support from family and own earnings. As a result of this approach, relatively many students are able to follow or complete their education.

In the past, students applied individually for this scholarship; however, the selection procedure for the Anne van den Ban Scholarship Fund has been changed. Candidates will now be selected in close cooperation with the university. The fund will no longer look at individual applications. Therefore you can’t apply for a scholarship, you have to wait if a combined Wageningen University Fellowship/Anne van den Ban scholarship is offered to you. This will happen next spring around May.

If you have been admitted to Wageningen University or are in the middle of the admission procedure and are interested in applying for a scholarship through the Paul Speijer Fund, please you are no longer required to send any document by e-mail. You will have to wait to see if a scholarship is offered to you. Apply for the Plant Sciences here.

It is important to visit the official website (link to it is below) for complete information.

DEADLINES:
The deadline for non-EU/EFTA students to apply for the Plant Sciences course program is May 1, 2016 (for the MSc Programmes starting in September). [The deadline for students to apply to the Paul Speijer Fund scholarship programmes used to be March 1.]

PLEASE NOTE:
You will be informed if you are offered a scholarship next spring around May.

The Paul Speijer Fund was founded in 2010 to support African students wishing to study for an MSc in Plant Sciences in Wageningen.
